Captain Astounding is delighted to announce that David Whitfield of
Southgate school in North London has won this year's trophy.
It was David's superb pro-maths website "The PiFactory",
that caught the eye of the judges. Originally written as a study aid for his pupils, the PiFactory
has grown to become a renowned internet resource and a great example for
other educators.
The PiFactory features famous mathematical
problems, maths book reviews, jokes, advice for students (and parents) and a potted
biography of the "mathematician of the month". There is even a
"blackboard cam" to jog the memory of homework shy pupils!
We strongly recommend a visit.
Besides the trophy itself David receives books for his school library (from the
"Captain Astounding's Nightclub" series, naturally) plus some fine champagne.
I know everone here at the club would like to join me in thanking David for all his
hard work and wishing him our heartiest congratulations.
Do you know a hero of education who deserves to win the Captain Astounding trophy?
If so then why not send me an email at .
Who knows? they might be the next winner!
